Frequently asked questions

The most common questions

01

What's the purpose of this retreat?

The purpose of the Hiking Clarity Retreat is for you to disconnect from your daily life & reconnect with yourself in nature. Only you can truly know what this means.

To help you gain clarity, you'll spend a lot of time:

  • Hiking
  • Reflecting in silence
  • Contemplating in guided meditations
  • Reframing & broadening your perspective in group coaching sessions
  • Connecting with like-minded people

02

What is the launch cohort?

The launch cohort is held to the same high standards as all other cohorts, meaning that it's led by experienced clarity coach Teddy Lange & assisted by Leon Schmieder & Mingma Gyurmey Sherpa. It includes everything that all other cohorts also offer.
The first difference is that it's the first cohort we are offering in this constellation. And for this reason, we find it only fair to offer it at a significant discount.
The second difference is that it's only taking 8 days instead of 10.
The third difference is that during the launch cohort, there will be pictures taken that we will be using for our marketing purposes. We would also highly appreciate receiving a video &/or written experience statement from all members of the launch cohort.

03

Who can participate?

Everyone who's fit, fun & reflective in nature.

  • You care to reflect on yourself & your life
The purpose of this Clarity Retreat is to gain clarity while spending time in silence & in conversation with other people. So, we require you to crave this kind of reflection time.
  • You're physically fit to hike for up to 16 km / 10 miles a day
We will be hiking for up to 16 km / 9.9 miles a day, on some days gaining up to 2,000 m / 6,660 ft. You need to be fit.
  • You hold respect as a core value
This experience is based on respect. We ensure that all participants care for themselves & others.
  • You have an insaturable passion for life
This Clarity Retreat helps you to make your life even more amazing than it already is. We care for participants to love life. This is not therapy, this is inspiration.
  • You're an adult
To participate in the Hiking Clarity Retreat, you must be 18 years or older by the beginning of the trip.

04

What are the rules?

  • Real talk
There's no place for small talk. In this group, we aim for every conversation to be about what really matters.

No SIM cards & no WiFi, so you reconnect with yourself. We will send a daily safety update to the people of your choice.

  • Presence
This experience requires your full presence. This means no drugs (incl. no alcohol). Smoking tobacco is permitted. Please make sure that you do not disturb other participants. Please keep the environment clean.
  • Trust
Everything that's shared is respected & remains confidential, unless you give the group your approval to share it.

The experience

01

What are the days like?

If you're asking for details, feel free to take a look at the day-by-day experience overview here.
From a top-level perspective, the days are based on:

  • Physical activity
Every day, we hike for 4 to 9 hours to reconnect with our bodies.
  • Reflective silence
You will spend a lot of time in silence to reconnect with your thoughts & feelings. To support this process, you will benefit from guided meditations.
  • Transformational conversations
Every day, you will engage in group reflections to connect with & learn from each other.
  • Rest
You will have a lot of time to simply do whatever you feel like doing (without WiFi or cellular data).

02

Who are the people participating?

This is an experience for reflective people. You can expect to be surrounded by people who care to have conversations about the things that really matter.
The idea is to inspire & be inspired by each other.

03

Am I safe?

Above all, we care for your safety!

  • Safe hikes
This trip is NOT meant to be dangerous in any way. There are no climbing sections, we do not ascend above 3,500 m / 11,480 for prolonged periods of time, nor do we walk through uncharted wilderness.
  • Reliable infrastructure
We hike on well-maintained trails, sleep in lodges, & eat cooked food in local tea & guest houses.
  • Medical support
There're medical stations along the way in case of an emergency. At no point are we further away from a hospital than a 1-hour helicopter flight (plus getting to the helicopter pick-up side). We carry a first-aid kit & at any point there's at least one member of the team who is trained & experienced in administering first aid.
  • Always connected
Most of the trek has cell phone reception. We also carry a satellite phone at all times
  • Safety updates
To ensure that your loved ones can sleep tight, we're also happy to send daily updates (incl. a photo) on your safety.

However, it's important to mention that you're responsible for your safety & that you're taking this trip at your own risk.

04

Where do we stay?

On the arrival day, we will stay at the Hyatt Place Kathmandu, a 5-star hotel in the capital of Nepal, a mere 15-minute taxi ride from the airport.
On all other days, we will stay in rural lodges. We ensure that you have a room to yourself.
However, it's important to note that the rooms are not heated, nor do they have private bathrooms. On rare occasions, it might happen that there will be no access to hot water.
All above-mentioned stays are included.

05

What do we eat?

You will get breakfast, lunch, & dinner every day. You will be able to choose whatever & however much you want at the guest & tea houses where we take rest.
A typical meal in the Himalayas is Dal Bhat, a dish consisting of steamed rice & a cooked lentil or other pulses stew. Most places also serve Western food.
All healthy meals & drinks are included.

The reflections

01

What to expect from the reflections?

The entire experience is specifically designed for you to disconnect from your daily business & reconnect with yourself. Within this design, there're multiple elements that support this purpose:

  • Hikes
A significant part of the hiking is done in silence. I's meant for you to just walk, take in nature, & be with your thoughts.
Oftentimes, you don't come to an important conclusion because you distract yourself with busy work, people, or entertainment. The hiking sessions are specifically designed to have extended periods of time without distraction.
You might be wondering, “But, doesn’t nature distract?” Countless studies & our experiences have shown that being surrounded by nature relieves stress, grounds you, & thereby helps you focus.
Countless biographies also have one thing in common: most great leaders in history spend extended periods of time walking. It's also interesting that hiking set trails with clear destinations helps us in pathing out our own way to more clarity.
  • Group reflections
The group consists of people who care as much about gaining clarity as you do.
Based on daily themes & questions, you will be reflecting on yourself.
To foster your process of gaining clarity, we will sit together every night of the hiking (but for one night) and have extended conversations where everybody is invited to share as much or as little as they wish.
  • Guided meditations
Meditations are momentary retreats into yourself. The purpose of the guided meditations is to set you up for important reflections.
In addition, we care for you to practice & learn the 5-step model of Buddhist mindfulness meditation to take with you as a skill. It will be valuable to stay on course after this trip.
  • Side conversations
You yourself have so much to offer. So, do all the participants. Gaining clarity is a process that is intensified & accelerated when surrounded by inspiring people with similar goals in life.
For this reason, we create a lot of room for all participants to connect & enrich each others' lives.
Many cohorts deliberately cater to specific locations (e.g. Bay Area Startup CEO Cohort) for you to build powerful relationships with leaders like you that will last for a lifetime.

02

How many of each of the sessions are there?

The entire week is a coaching session. More specifically, you can expect:

  • 7 group group reflections
  • 7 reflective hikes
  • 8 guided meditations
  • 2 campfire reflections
  • 2 silent hikes
  • Countless opportunities for inspiring conversations

However, as each group is unique, we might alter the schedule slightly.

The preparation

01

How do I best prepare for the reflections?

No preparation is required. If you're a person who loves to go with the flow that's totally acceptable.
If you wish to prepare, the most important preparation you can do is to clearly define the most important question that you care to gain clarity on. What do you want to ruminate on while hiking? The more clarity you have here, the more valuable the hike will be.

02

How do I best prepare for the hikes?

You know your fitness level better than anyone else. So, only you can answer this question.
In the two weeks prior to the coaching, we recommend that you hike or walk for at least 40 km / 25 miles in each of those two weeks.

The process

01

How do I book a spot?

You can book your spot right here on this website.
If you have any questions prior to booking, write us a message or book a call with Teddy .

02

What happens after my booking?

The process after booking looks as following:

  • Within 24 hours you'll receive an e-mail from us with all the important information.
  • Teddy will offer you a complimentary call to individually prepare for your experience.
  • You will receive a packing & to-do list to make all arrangements for your trip (equipment, visas, flight arrangements, ...)

03

What happens before the trip?

We support you in preparing for the trip.

  • Group onboarding
3 weeks prior to the trip, we do an online group onboarding session where you meet the other participants. We'll provide you with a checklist including everything that you need to take care of before the trip. And, there'll be plenty of time for you to ask questions.
  • Individual preparation
